Classes at Chung's Martial Arts Academy
Children's Class
Tae Kwon Do is an excellent martial art/sport for children to participate and compete in. In recent years Tae Kwon Do has become a safe Olympic sport designed to be accessible by all people including children. Tae Kwon Do training is a great way to instill the values of discipline and confidence in a young mind. If children put forth a good effort they can expect to see an improved physical condition and improved coordination. With most children parents will also notice improved discipline, respect, and confidence in their child.
Adult Class
Martial arts training is an excellent method for improving ones whole self. This class is offered to anyone thirteen and older who wants to receive the many benefits of martial arts training. Participants will notice improved physical fitness as well as improvements in confidence and focus. Anyone from a serious student to someone who wants another hobby will find value in this class. The curriculum will focus on developing a strong foundation in the basic techniques and forms of Moo Sool Do. Emphasis will also be placed on teaching students how to spar and defend themselves against grabs and punches.
Competition Class (Thursday)
This class is designed for individuals who want to get into top physical condition for competition and demonstrations. Beyond physical training much of the class time will be spent improving sparring technique and strategy. If one wishes to compete in Olympic Tae Kwon Do this is an excellent preparation class. Students who participate in this class will also be expected to serve on the demo team and participate in local demonstrations. In order to attend one must have earned a yellow belt (9th gup) or higher in promotional examinations. Consider also that this class is mainly intended for young people, it will be paced quickly and involve strenuous exercise. Participants are expected to put forth full effort and be able to keep up with the class in order to maintain a high-energy environment. Those who cannot meet these guidelines should continue training in the standard adult class.
Tang Soo Do/Hapkido
Tang Soo Do/Hapkido training is intended for the most serious students at Chung's Martial Arts Academy. In this class emphasis is placed on traditional training and combat application rather than sport. Students attending this class should expect large amounts of repetition and attention to detail. Those who attend this class should be prepared to fall, strike, and block at full force during drill practice. Students should also be prepared to engage in training designed to toughen striking surfaces so that stronger strikes can be made. Due to the demanding nature of this class only those who demonstrate high levels of focus, control and spirit will be admitted. This is done on an invitation basis after a student has developed adequate basic technique. It is also required that participants be at a minimum age of fifteen because of the demands that are placed on the body.
